CASE STUDY: Infographic link building

MOTIVATION FOR USING INFOGRAPHIC AS A LINK BUILDING TOOL

Infographics have become very popular in last few years on all kinds of websites – from personal blogs to major news sites. Infographic designers take a lot of information gathered from research, structure it and present it visually.
We take a bunch of information, data and numbers, and display it using graphs, charts, various other graphic elements and images, and not too much text. It’s not an easy task and can take a lot of time, but it’s worth it!
Infographics attract lots of readers and social shares, and increase overall brand awareness. There’s a lot of possibilities when designing infographics.
Posts with Infographics grow traffic 12% more than those without them. Because they are showcasing your knowledge and creativity Infographics are great for building brand awareness.

HOW WE DID IT

STEP #1 - IDEA

We’ve created a lot of different infographics for our clients and for ourselves. This time we wanted something new and different. Something we never did before. That’s why decided to do a detailed research on what people in our niche want to know more about.

STEP #2 - RESEARCH

During our research, we came to the obvious discovery. Digital marketers are hungry for numbers, stats, and percentages. Since our main focus is on content marketing, we decided to check content marketing statistics and trends. Although marketers are interested in statics, all of those numbers can be hard to take in. That’s why we took all of them and presented them in a form of the infographic.

STEP #3 - DATA COLLECTION

Once we gathered all the data, it was hard to select the most important ones that we wanted to present. We wanted to include all relevant information but still keep our infographic easy to follow.

STEP #4 - DESIGN

Here comes the most fun part for us. Coming up with the theme, creating few drafts, picking the best one, combining colors and in the end, putting all elements together.

STEP #5 - PUBLISHING

Just like with any other of our blog posts and infographics, we published this one on our blog as well. This way, not only our readers can check it out on our site but we can easily fulfill our main goal. And that’s building links to our site.

STEP #6 - PROMOTION

None of the previous steps wouldn’t matter if there wasn’t a promotion. We used some of the common methods such as social media promotion but there was one method that proved to be the best one. It was the outreach. We’ve contacted a lot of different sites, magazines and influencers who were more than interested to share our infographic together with a link back to our site. Once that infographic got out there, the number of backlinks to our site grew exponentially. Others recognized it as a quality piece and started using it as a reference in their posts and articles.
